Holyport WI Monthly report for March



On Thursday 14th of March, Mary stood in as our President in Jen’s absence. One minute’s silence was observed for the passing away of Babs Shaw, and Dot Abbott, both past members of our Institute.

Mary welcomed two members from Maidenhead W.I. our tellers for the evening, also Sylvia Reynolds a visitor for the evening.

Byrony explained the rules for the Denman Bursary, the draw took place at the end of the meeting, and Kathy Kielty won, with Annette T and Janet as reserves. The Denman Bursary can be taken anytime in the year with a course of the winners choice.

Janet gave details on our next walk this one in March to Sonning, and walk 50 around Woburn,  this will include a bluebell walk in conjunction with the ACWW appeal “Women Walk the World. An envelope will circulate at the next meeting for all those wishing to contribute toward this.

The fish and chip suppers arrived and all business stopped to enjoy the evening’s refreshments.

A thank you card via Penny, came from the Alexander Devine Charity for the kind donation. The speaker of last month’s meeting, Will Calvert requested we give his fee money to a charity of our choice, this we duly did.

Pauline our secretary delivered her report on the years events, followed by Wendy with the Treasurers report. Mary read out Jen’s President report for the year.

A vote for the new President took place and Jen was re-elected. Plants were given to the three standing officers, for their hard work all year round.

Presentations took place for the Helen Hellyer Cup, this year won by Ann M. Competition cup went to Jean, and Pat won the Hazel Edwards Rose Bowl. Carole was the overall winner of the Flower of the Month cup. Carole took photographs for our scrap book.

Annette F was thanked for collating photographs for a competition, we all said we were very sorry she was leaving us to relocate to Devon, we all wished her well in her new home.

Teas and coffees were served by Annette T to everyone with iced fruit cake from last months birthday cake.

After the raffle the meeting came to a close at 9.40pm.
