Holyport W.I.’s Annual meeting started promptly due to our fish and chip supper’s expected arrival, for 8 o’clock. Pam, our President started the meeting with the singing of Jerusalem and welcomed Ann Knee-Robinson, who had come from the County federation to oversee the election of our new President. Ann T’s daughter had also come along to the meeting as a visitor.
Pam will get a plant for Barbara who is in hospital at the moment.
Bryony took raffle tickets around, for our Bursary draw and the lucky winner will go to Denman College this year. A vote was taken to see how many people would like another Quiz evening, in June. A book will circulate at our next meeting for this event. Janet read out our next walk, this time it will be in Binfield in March, all to meet at the ‘Jack O Newbury’ public house. Our fish and chip suppers duly arrived on time and everyone was able to enjoyed them before the rest of the business continued.
Diane had written some updated information for the ‘Berkshire Year Book’. Pam thanked Diane for doing this on behalf of Holyport W.I. The book will be available soon for us to purchase. Our social evening in February made £102 profit, this will go towards our own funds. Wendy was thanked very kindly for hosting the event.
Pam asked for a volunteer to attend the Spring Council Meeting in Reading. Ann Marshall kindly volunteered to represent us as our delegate. A request went out for a member to accompany Pam to Maidenhead W.I. in March to act as a teller for the evening. Debbie volunteered to do this.
Pauline read out the correspondence and gave her annual Secretary’s report followed by Wendy with her Treasurers report for the year’s finances, Pam asked for someone to second this. Wendy also read out the President’s address. Due to the recent death of Shirley R, Wendy stood down as our President and became the treasurer, Pam had acted as President for the past three months. Pauline L presented the three officers with a pot of spring flowers each.
We then adjourned for refreshments, tea, coffee and birthday cake were served.
After the refreshments a vote took place for a new President, all the committee stood, and members were asked to vote for one of them to be our new President. Ann Knee-Robinson conducted the vote and announced that Jen would be our President this year. Pam thanked Ann for coming to the meeting to oversee the voting.
Pam presented the flower of the month cup to Carole, the Helen Hellyer cup to Margaret for her fruit and vegetable arrangement. Ann Marshall received the Hazel Edwards Rose bowl for a A5 book cover plus the competition cup. Both trophies will be presented to Ann at the April meeting. Jane B won the Denman draw and will go to Denman College sometime this year, she will be able to choose any of the courses on offer.
With no other business the meeting came to a close at 10.05pm.
