Holyport W. I. Monthly Report for February

Mary S stood in for Jen our President this month and proceeded to give out the apologies for all the other members who could not attend the meeting.

Pauline L gave the birthday toast and everyone lifted their glasses to commemorate Holyport W.I. ‘s 63 rd birthday. Kathy had made the birthday cake and Pam iced the cake.

Penny collected the money for next months Fish and Chip suppers. It was proposed that our Auditor Mr. J Barry should have an increase in his fee this year, everybody present was in favour of this motion.

Debbie sent round the rota list for jobs needed for the forthcoming year. Voting slips also circulated for members to fill in names of candidates for the new committee this year.

Datchet W.I. sent us an invitation to attend their 73rd birthday meeting. Carole read out the Berkshire News.

Mary introduced us to Will Calvert our speaker for the evening his subject “The Windsor Brewery.” Will gave a lively talk with members participating and discussing the quality of the beers available locally and else where.

We sampled his most famous best bitter called Guardsman. He gave us a bit of history on the Brewery and past Breweries in Windsor, one of the breweries goes back to being the first in England. How the current Brewery had started, we also looked at the samples of Barley seeds and hops that make up the ingredients of the beer.

We all wished him every success with the reopening of “The Swan” in Mill Lane Windsor,  Shan thanked Will for a very interesting talk.

Will also judged the competition “Chocolate Truffles with Real Ale.” Pat Monks will receive the Hazel Edwards Rose Bowl for her entry.

The meeting came to a close at 10 o clock.
