Jen our President opened the meeting and introduced us to Mr. Tony King our speaker for the evening. The minutes of our last meeting were signed and Jane gave out the birthday posies.
The poetry date for August was announced, also the Craft, Book club and Scrabble dates too.
Janet spoke on our next walk number 53 to Little Marlow Woods.
Jen then introduced Tony King who had come to the meeting to speak on past memories with the aid of some slides and videos. A very entertaining evening proceeded with some videos of the favourite T.V. programme’s of the 50’s/60’s. Great laughter ensued when clips of Steptoe and Son, Bill and Ben, several other well known T.V shows of the day came on the screen.
Photos of Reading in the 50’s showed us how much the town had changed. This was followed by Films of the 50’s/60’s. Queues for the cinema showed how popular the cinema was in those days.
After a great deal of laughter from the audience Wendy proceeded to thank Mr. King for a thoroughly entertaining evening. We then took a break for refreshments.
Jen thanked all those who had provided cakes for Holyport Fair the stall made £85.00. Holyport Fair raised approximately £12,000.00.
A book circulated for names of people who will be attending the Garden Party at Jan P house in August.
Pat M read out a report on her recent visit to Money Row Green afternoon Lunch, Pam also attended this meeting. Both had thanked Sylvia for a very enjoyable event.
Details of the planned Quiz evening in October were distributed , a Supper will be included in the price of £12.50p.
Ann M stood up and recounted her visit to the Spring Council Meeting. Diane asked for volunteers for the Talking Newspaper Teas in September. A card from Carole S was read out thanking everyone for their good wishes and for the plants and flowers given to her after her recent operation.
Siobhan had attended the meeting to judge the Hellen Hellyer Cup competition. This was for a miniature flower arrangement no bigger than 5″ in height or width.
There were several entries and Siobhan said she had to be a bit picky to select the winner as all entries had been of a very good standard. Bryony came first with Pam second and Mary third.
The meeting came to a close at 9.55pm.
